2011 Philippine National Age Group Qualifying Tournament for Asean+ result

04.28.2011 Davao City.  First and foremost,  Thanks God!  This day was the hardest and the most faith holding moment of all tournaments that I been through. Round 6 was with Haince Patrick de Leon, an equally talented player. But noticed from him that his playing defensive all the time.  He lost the game with me after his good performances with also tougher kids.  Round 7 was with Tristan French Ibaooc, a fellow Asean Age grouper and a team mate (together with Paulo Bersamina) in the 2010 Asean Age Group in Subic.  I lost the game.  Errors and mistakes been committed, maybe too much confident.  Waiting for the final list was heart pounding.  Our score both ended with 6 points.  I have a solid 6 wins while Tristan have 5 wins and 2 draws.  And really happiness is immeasurable when the result came out.  I got the championship title! (Pictures to follow when I got back to Manila)

And here is the the top five players in the just concluded 2011 Philippine National Age Group Qualifying Tournament for Asean+
Only the top 2 players will qualify for the Asean+ Age Group to be held in Takaran, Indonesia to be held on June 11 to 20, 2011.

Lapses and Mistakes

April 26, 2010 Davao City.

Game 2.  I hope this really never would happen again.  When our game has to be recalled at the middle of the game, when almost half of my time been consumed already.  I sitted on the assigned board and get ready for the game to start.  Somebody walk beside us and claimed that he is my opponent.  OMG! Really?! And who is this guy playing with me?  A sub??? My real opponent whose name was registered on the pairing was late!!!  And I can`t complain anymore.  Should it be my mistake also?  But how about giving penalty to my late opponent.  He should have been defaulted already but the arbiter reset our clock 'the same'  as if nothing happened.

Game 3. Still recovering from that game and my father/coach constant reminders.  Somehow my focus got affected.  I committed lapses on my first few moves.  Everybody were so eager to see how our game will end, or how would i loose the game.  I noticed that even players beside me are watching our game.  But it was a long game, i just dig on dipper to the possibilities of each move and with determination to win, i was able to hurdle again another tough play.   Thanks God! Prayers move.

2011 Davao Age Group

04.26.2010.  Davao City.  We arrived in Davao City last Saturday and proceeded to my lola`s house.  After resting a little we went to Gaisano Mall to check the venue and see if there was a registration going on in the assigned venue.  The activity area was busy, an event is on-going and we did not noticed any pre-registration activity for the next day`s event.

Game 1 started so late. The players are already restless. The category where I belong (BOYS 12-Under) had the most number of participants.  We are 57 on the list and I started at Board 21.

I won in Game 1.  Game 2, was much of an experience.  We were already in the middle of the game when we were recalled.  There was problem in pairing, so practically I had 2 games in Game 2.  But Thanks God! I won again.  The tempo of the player might get affected.  Hope this won`t happen again.  It was so tiring and I still have Game 3 in the afternoon.

After this event (Age-Group), we will go home and wait for our departure for the Palarong Pambansa which will start on May 8.  I'll be missing the chance to join the Juniors, the event that will soon follow after the Age-Group and the qualifying event for the World Juniors in New Delhi, India!  It was kind of frustrating because we cannot just go on without any support and funding to participate.  The willingness and spirit is here but ... to tell you the truth we can`t make it all by ourselves and probably this is true to all the players who always have their supporting and loving parents to back them up.

Game 4 and 5 tomorrow... God bless everyone!

Davao City holds two nat’l chess tournaments in April

Note:  This was published last March 9, 2011 in balita.ph (a back issue for a  newspaper : ) ), but what is important here is the information regarding the number of qualifiers for the Asean tilts.

DAVAO CITY, March 8 -– Davao City will be hosting two national chess tournament to be held on April this year, according to National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) regional director James Infiesto. Infiesto said first on the calendar is the much-awaited 2011 Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio National Age-Group chess championships from April 25 to 28 then, the National Junior chess championships take place on April 29 to May 3.

Both events will either be played at the Gaisano Mall or NCCC Mall here.

He said the country's top young chess stars descent again on Davao City for the second straight year with the staging of two national tournaments next month.

He said the top two category finishers in the National Age-Group will earn slots to the Asean +Age-Group Tournament in Takaran, Indonesia to be held on June 11 to 20.

The top boys and girls placers in the Junior Championship event will land the slots to the World Juniors in New Delhi, India set on August 1 to 16.

The two competitions are being organized by NCFP headed by president/chairman Prospero "Butch" Pichay in cooperation with the city government of Davao led by Mayor Duterte-Carpio.

Infiesto said he expects participants in the age-group event to balloon to 500 from last year's over 200 players where trophies and cash prizes are at stake in both tournaments, the biggest to be held this year in the progressive Mindanao city.

The winners in each category will get P5,000 plus medal while the second and third finishers will earn P2,500 and P1,500 plus medals. The fourth finisher is assured of P1,000 and a medal and the fifth P500 plus medals.
