Daryl`s training is being backed-up by Malabon Congresswoman Jaye Lacson-Noel through the sports scholarship granted by the congresswoman which aim is to improve his skills under mentor(s).  His chess skills did improved very well under the guidance of Grandmaster Bong Villamayor, IM Barlo Nadera, and Adamson University Coach Chris Rodriguez.

Palarong NCR 2011 - Final Day

02.17.2011.  Daryl Unix R. Samantila of Adamson University, Manila once again showed his gallant on the chess board by topping the elementary boys division of the National Capital Region (NCR) Palarong Pambansa chess qualification tournament on Thursday at the Aurora Quezon Elementary School in Manila.  Participating teams come from Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela, Las Piñas, Makati, Mandaluyong, Marikina, Manila, Muntinlupa, Parañaque, Pasay, Pasig, Quezon City, Taguig, Pateros and the municipality of San Juan. 
        

Samantila, the Asean Age Group Olympiad Silver Medalist claimed solo leadership when he finished undefeated with a score of 6.5 out of 7 games.   He and John Fleer Donguines of Pasig who came second to him will represent NCR in the coming Palarong Pambansa to be held at Dapitan, Zamboanga Del Norte City from  May 8 – 14, 2011.

Elementary girls: Janela Joyce Gamayot (TPT), Ares Abigail Ocampos (MLA);

Secondary girls: Arvie Lozano (MND), Cherry Ann Mejia (MNL)

Secondary boys: Bryan Barcelon (MNL), Giovanni Mejia (MND)

Donguines and Samantila, Elementary Boys Division

Ocampos and Gayamot, Elementary Girls Division

Barcelon and Mejia, High School Boys Division

Palarong NCR 2011 - Daryl is the Champion!!!

Palarong NCR is over.  And YES! Daryl is declared the champion having scored 6.5/7.  Second to him is John Fleer Donguines from Pasig City.  He and John Fleer will represent the NCR Boys - Elementary Division in the Chess Event.  In the High School Division, my varsitarian Timothy So Kua showed a good fight but missed the chance when he lost in the last round.  It was Giovanni Mejia of La Salle and Bryan Barcelon of UE who will represent the Boys - HS Division in the coming Palarong Pambansa this summer.

Palarong NCR - Day 1

02.14.2011.  Valentine`s Day, 1st day of the Palarong NCR.  Red is definitely not the color of the day.  Players and coaches were donning their uniforms in different colors.

ASEAN AGE GROUP OLYMPIAD SILVER MEDALLIST SAMANTILA BIDA SA MERALCO CHESS

PINANGUNAHAN ni ASEAN Age Group  Olympiad Silver medalist Daryl Unix Samantila ng Adamson University ang 6-pack kiddies team kontra sa MVP Olympics-bound MERALCO Team na ginanap sa Meralco head office sa Ortigas kamakailan.

"The match was played in the tradition of FIDE's Experience Stars vs Rising Stars Match where our very own Wesley So was one of the stars. " sabi ni Meralco Chess Club president Raul Sol Cruz.  Dinomina ng kiddies ang 5-round Scheveningen Match tungo sa 9 -4 match points kontra sa MERALCO. .

Si Samantila nag-ala Wesley-like performance matapos manalo sa kanyang laro kay June de Galicia sa R1, Ronnie Dellota sa R2, Adrian Esteva sa R3, Johnson Maclang sa R4, at Karl Clarito sa R5. Naka perfect 5.0!

Ang iba pang kiddies sa team ay sina NCAA's Kerby Acoba ng Letran Knights na may 4 wins, Shell National Youth Grand-Finalist Jose Castro na may 3 wins at draw, Batang QC Champions Eric Margarito ng Bagong Silangan High School na may 3 wins at draw at Louie Samante ng Batasan Hills National High School na may 1 win at 3 draws, at ASEAN Olympiad Bronze medalist at MERALCO Employees' Day Jr. Champion Rhal Sol Cruz ng La Salle na may 2 wins.

"These kids are very strong players already. We did not expect them to be that good. They will all become grandmasters in the future, given the proper training at sabi nga namin dito sa MERALCO,  ang liwanag ng bukas. " sabi ni MERALCO''s Darryl Mata, ang best scorer sa kanyang team na may 2 wins at draw sa 3 games.

Ang 2nd MVP Olympics kung saan ay si MERALCO Sr. Vice-President Al Panlilio ang aaktong Chairman mula saMVP Group sa Marso sa MERALCO Center sa Pasig City.
