1st Periodic Grading Report Card

School on weekdays and chess during weekends, and still able to make it as TOP 2 in our class having an average score of 92.0.   It was fortunate that before my two-week absence, (because of  me joining 2 International events, the Pichay and Campomanes Cup) our first grading examination had just finished.

My English and Math  Diagnostic Test results are EXCELLENT  and my Science Diagnostic Test result is ABOVE AVERAGE.

One wrong answer in Science:  When was Holey`s comet last appearance? Correct answer: April 21, 1910

A trivia about Halley`s Comet and Mark Twain
Halley’s Comet appeared in the sky the same day Mark Twain was born. It was November 30, 1835. This event made him predicted that he will die and will go with the Comet the moment it comes back. It happened on April 21, 1910. Mark Twain died as the Halley’s Comet appeared again on the sky.

WHERE : 2nd Floor, Entertainment Hall, South Wing, MOA
Mechanics : U-10, U-12, U-14, U-16

Daryl Unix R. Samantila, scored 6.5 and tied for 2nd place after round 7 of chess tournament held at the Mall of Asia. Number of participants in the  12-under division totaled 181 and Daryl ranked 3rd overall.

12-Under First Place winner NM Paulo Bersamina with perfect score of 7.0 and Daryl Unix Samanila (that is me) holding my 3rd place trophy with a score of 6.5.  (tie for 2nd with Elijah Maliam).

Awarding ceremony.

Second placer is Elijah Maliam with a score also of 6.5 but scored a higher tie-treak.  In this picture, Elijah (black) and me (white) paired in the 5th round and our game ended in a draw.  I am almost into a good end game but my opponent discovered a perpetual check which did not caught my attention because I was focused for the other moves.

First of all, Congratulations to Mr. Boy Rabe, Mr. Miranda, Alex Dinoy and Rotary  International District 3830 for the successful turnout of participants.

Some observations:  The players trooped MOA as early as 7:00 am but sad to say the event started at almost 12:00 noon and ended around 10:00 pm. Bank registration was required and a deadline was given but surprisingly there were others who trooped the event and on-site registration happened which caused the mess.

It was good that Mr. Alex Dinoy told the accepting committee to stop the registration on site because he cannot proceed with the pairing.  Parents were already irritated by the long hours spent waiting. Anticipating that pairings are all ready for posting when they arrive at the venue and start the tournament on time.  Since plenty of time was wasted in waiting for the registration to be closed, the time control was later lessen from 25 to 20 and less and less...

The event in attendance is a success, but still the lapses were obviously because of the organizers accepting on-site registration. ALWAYS the same PROBLEM that participants ENCOUNTER in NON-COMPANY sponsored events.

Suggestion:  If other participants cannot register thru bank payment, have an accessible on-site registration prior to the date of event.
