DARYL TOP KIDDIE 14 UNDER CATEGORY - 1ST Saturday MAGNOLIA Chess Tournament

The tournament is open for all Non-Master with 1950 Below NCFP Rapid Rating. I scored 4.5 on this tournament and named Top Kiddie Player for 14 Under category. At the start I somehow can`t get the right tempo. For 2 consecutive games I had time trouble. My 3rd game is a draw and I am able to pick up after that game. Antonette SanDiego was there and got the Top Lady. We received a trophy and goodies from Magnolia. I got to meet again my other kiddie chess player friends from the Tanyag Elementary School. It was two months ago when I first joined their tournament which is being organized by the Don Bosco Chess Club (Brgy. Don Bosco, Better Living, Paranque City) headed by Club's President Roland Roselda, VP Cecil Padua and Dr. Bong Perez. Before the opening they did acknowledged and congratulated me for being a silver medalist in the Asean Age Group that was held in Vietnam. And there was some picture taking with their participants in the chess olympics. It is such a good venue where I can able to play with good players rated and unrated. They held tournament on the same venue every 1st saturday of the month. Their next tourney is on August 2, 2008.

Daryl Unix - Top 8 year old under category - 16th SNYACC - Manila NCR Leg

I got the Top 8 year old category special award. I scored 5 point and 30 bukholz.

The Manila leg of the 16th SNYACC that took place at the SM Manila ended June 28, 2008. Last Sunday, the scheduled last day was suspended due to typhoon 'Frank'. My friend and teammate from 9th Asean Age Group Championship, Paulo Bersamina won the Top Kiddie division. Christian Nanola, is the first runner up. He is also my buddy in Vietnam who played in the 12-U Boy category. I got a special award, the Top 8 year old category. I scored 5 point and 30 bukholz. I actually got 4 wins, 2 draws, 1 loss to my friend Vince Angelo Medina, who also played in Vietnam. Hope next time to qualify on the semis. Until next year!

My first international tournament experience

Did you know that in our category (B-10), we got 3 medals each plus 1 bronze for Paulo (individual medal), and only 2 of the boys from Vietnam got 2 medals each and rest got 1 medal only for team competition. Plus to their medals were that of individual medals. If only prior to the game teammates were already identified, we should have gotten all the golds. But the points were taken from the top three players of each country. So imagine we are only 3 and there are 17 vietnamese kids. What do you expect? Elijah and Paulo and Me got paired in some game, so that is already minus 1 or 2 points from our team. In our category, we got the most number of participants, so landing on no. 5 during the Rapid game is not bad. You must see who were paired during that last round. Board 1 and 2, Viet vs Viet and me on Board 3 vs. Viet. Though I won the game my mom already told me to just wish and pray. She told me that their game will be fixed already, they wont give me a place. And so it happened, all the four boys got individual medal. 1 gold and 3 silvers...they tied and I just bumped off to the fifth place with no medal even the bronze one. I was so unhappy but I can't do nothing. Even Paulo suffered the same faith during the standard game. But we did our best, our very very best. It was so tiring but a very momorable experience. My first international tournament!
