Ooops, I did it again! 3 time winner in the Relorcasa Age Group 10-under Category
For those who got frustrated upon seeing me in the third leg, well better luck next time and sorry for the frustration. I was invited and encouraged by the organizers to join. I joined this tournament with a purpose. First, I am still looking for possible players in my category who may happen to play in the upcoming 2nd age-group. Second, this is a test for me to determine if I learned my lessons in chess. Third, to asses if I can already graduate from this category with 'satisfaction'. But I still misses on some moves. I commit errors but is able to win back. I will graduate soon from the 10-under category, don`t worry. In the next leg I might not join anymore. Will just see you guys in December, in the finals!.

2ND MAYOR FLORENCIO BERNABE PARANAQUE CHESS OPEN 2009 RESULT
First time to play in the same tournament with my mentor GM Bong Villamayor who is always there analyzing my game. I feel proud! (me in yellow, GM Bong standing behind me).
We are all in red, t-shirts were given by Mayor Bernabe.
Last round on Board 1 is GM Wesley So (black) versus Rustum Tolentino and GM Darwin Laylo on Board 2 (white) playing against Nazario Ubanan. I lost a game with Ubanan in the 3rd round.
Participants looking at the final pairing. I am so little I have to get in front to see what number am I now.

Congratulations to Mayor Jun Bernabe, Doc Bong Perez and the NAPCA officers and members! Well planned and organized event. And to top it all it was attended by none other than the Masters, to mention: GM Bong Villamayor, GM Wesley So, GM Mark Paraqua, GM Darwin Laylo, Respectable Fide Honarary President Florencio Campomanes, and by notable IMs, NMs and FMs in the country. The participants enjoyed the game and they were delightedto get the autographs of their idols in their t-shirts, chess boards, notebooks... etc. Everybody had a nice game and they are excited to play with stronger opponents which most of them considered as a good time for practice.
And my performance, not bad at all ranked at no. 7th in the 14-under category with 5.5pts. This is my first time to join an open-tournament. I landed at no. 79 among 300 participants after the final round and I got to play with junior and senior woodpushers.

Plan and Organize Event PLEASE!
When can chess organizers ever abide to their own rules. Tournament starts by 9:00am when by that time they are just starting to welcome registrants and by 11:00am they are still collecting registration fees. Registration will stop one (1) hour before the tournament starts. When is that going to be? This never happens because first of all the players do not have any idea when the organizers will start collecting money. When the organizers are expecting numerous turn-out or players and yet the venue is not capable of accomdating the numbers. Please check also if the playing area is conducive enough and will not be bring harm to the players specially to the children.
I hope organizers should put in their tournament advertisement the objective of why they are having the tournament. Are they concern with the chess players development or to source income. Well, who would say the last... = ) Or the least just say for the benefit of the organizers club, barangay, family(?). If the tournament will suppose to start at 11:00, then start by 11:00am, start the registration as early as 8:00am and end it by 10:00am. So the players won`t have to wake up very early, prepare themselves and travel but end up waiting for many many hours when their spiritis are already down.
I have an email from a family friend. See how the Americans behave during tournaments.
"hey, maikwento ko lang ang siste ng chess dito on club level. Dito they play by rating....Kapag may tourney, lahat ng nagparegister will be divided into 5 - 6 section e.g. all players with rating from 2000 - 1800 is section A, yun new players or unrated will players to further section, this is regardless of age, kaya nga kahit nasa last section siya, may nakakalaban pa rin syang mga older people. Mabigat lang kapag tourney dito sa club, kasi every thursday nite at puro long-rated game, each nite - one game kc 2 hour each kayo.....ang higpit dito during tourney....lagi akong nasusot-sotan ng chess arbiter dahil sa kaluskus ng apak ko...
.... ang higpit nila, video nga lang ang pwede...ayaw nila ng ingay during game, kahit kaluskus lang ng ipis, sinisita, so I stay out most of the time. totally bawal ang ingay..bye..daryll, magtyaga k"
The worst event was the one I attended last weekend. It was a dismay. So much dismay that we go home after round 4 and its around 8:00pm already. While the tournament is on-going the organizers are shouting the 'pairings' and assign them on the next available seat whenever a pair finished a game. It happened because of the problem in the venue. The acceptance of registrants is never ending. The first game started at 2 or 3:00pm At 5:00pm tables are being added trying to accomodate all the players in the area. Well attended yes, but not a worthy tournament.

Dalauta, Manansala top Shell Naga chess
Dalauta of Rizal Tech U and Michael Angelo Manansala II came away with big victories in the last three rounds to rule their respective divisions in the Naga leg of the Shell National Youth Active Chess Championships at SM City Naga event center last Sunday.
The sixth seeded Dalauta battled back from joint fifth to emerge solo champion in the juniors division, beating Christiano Serrano, No. 2 Sheider Nebato and Gerald Ferriol to finish the seven-round Swiss system tournament sponsored by Pilipinas Shell with 6.5 points.
No. 9 Giovannie Romero bounced back from a sixth round loss to Ferriol by upending seventh ranked Arvin Dableo in the final round to finish with six points and nip three others in the tiebreak for runner-up honors in the event backed by Shell Fuels, Shellane, Shell Helix, and McDonald’s, in partnership with SM Supermalls and Paseo Reale Cagayan.
Ferriol took the No. 3 spot despite losing his final game to Dalauta, edging top seed Kevin Mirano and erstwhile co-leader John Morazo in the tiebreak to clinch the last berth in the national finals of the circuit sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Phils.
Manansala, also ranked No. 6 in the kiddies division, romped away with victories over Patrick Destura, Michael Arteta and David Asug Jr. to complete a sweep of the 14-and-under category.
Benigno de Jesus of Sto. Nino Academy of Bocaue, Bulacan also matched that seven-point output but Manansala, from First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities, took the crown with a superior tiebreak score.

President Cory Aquino Funeral Procession - Quirino Avenue View
August 5, 2009. It was the day Ex-President Cory Aquino will be laid to her final resting place and it was declared a non-working holiday. But we were told that we will have a training on that day. So, early that day we went to school and found out later that our training was cancelled. There were only four of us not been informed of the cancellation. One of the player later found out it in a text message after he charged his cellphone at the school. We didn`t received any text from any of them that it was cancelled. My mother even bothered to go to the school since she have to bring our lunch. Though it was a rest day already for her, a chance where every employee is been longing for, a paid un-expected holiday in-between their regular working days.
But then our family still made the day worthwhile. After some blitz game we decided to pack-up and have our lunch. We are to eat in an eatery when Mother looked at the TV monitor and saw the funeral procession has been starting already. She then decided to have our lunch at McDonalds at Quirino cor Taft Avenues. The procession will be passing that way. I saw the overwhelming number of people from different classes. I cheered as Tita Cory passes by. I also shouted Cory! Cory! with the Laban sign even if I don`t know what it meant. But I think I just did it automatically. Or maybe, it is because of my Filipino instinct that prompted me to do it naturally and unconsciously.
