The 19th Shell National Youth Active Chess Championship (SNYACC) tournament an annual event was staged last weekend, July 2 to 3 2011 at the SM North EDSA Skydome Event Center. I was not able to attend the said event, only my sister did and the Adamson chess team. I will probably join the next leg in Tuguegarao or Batangas. I actually joined the other Philippine junior chessers in the 1st AFPI Chess for A Cause held at the Fort Bonifacio Gymnasium. The two events were held simultaneously so I have to choose between the two events.
For the first time, SNYACC been divided into 2 divisions, the girls and the boys division. The event has been limited number of participants. A total of 300 boys and girls; 200 boys and 100 girls for the kiddies and juniors categories summed up the NCR leg. Id`s and T-shirts were worn by players as the ceremony started. The free lunches were served on the 2nd day.
The pairings were changed for several times as players who were not present at that time have to be replaced by those in waiting. It did not take much of the time because a pre-paired list been prepared before the venue opens. The four rounds were finished on day one and three more rounds for the girls and four more rounds for the boys on 2nd day. IM Oliver Dimakiling (who have to attend the AFPI event at the same time) gave the short fruitful inspirational talk for the opening while IM Cardoso gave a lengthy but meaningful speech before the last day`s awarding.
Mr. Alex Dinoy is as busy as a bee, as he managed to make this year`s NCR LEG SNYACC event another success. Congratulations to you Sir Alex and to the entire group of arbiters and most especially to the NCR LEG finalists!
