PHL WOODPUSHERS BAG 23 MEDALS IN TARAKAN AGE GROUP CHESS BLITZ TILT
FILIPINO whiz kids bagged 23 medals, including eight gold medals, at the conclusion of the blitz competition of 12th ASEAN + age-group chess championships at the Indoor Telaga Kramat Stadium in Tarakan, Indonesia on Wednesday.
“We are proud of our RP age groupers performance in Tarakan,” said National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) Chairman/President Prospero "Butch" Pichay Jr.
"Hopefully we could get more medals in the Standard and Rapid competition," added Pichay. According to NCFP Executive Director/Grandmaster Jayson Gonzales, the entire Philippine team won eight gold medals, seven silver and eight bronzes.
The five individual gold medals were garnered by Dennis Gutierrez III of Bulacan (Open 8-under); Julius Gonzales of Marikina City (Open 10-under); Daryl Unix Samantila of Tonsuya, Malabon (Open 12-under); Mc Dominique Lagula of Nueva Ecija (Open 16-under); and Mira Mirano of Aklan (Girls 14-under).
The three team gold medals were delivered by Lagula, Patrick Dave Dulay of Vigan, Ilocos Sur and Jeazzir Kline Surposa of Davao City (Open 16-under); Mirano, Shaina Mae Mendoza of Laguna and Ella Grace
Moulic of Davao City (Girls 14-under) and Janelle Mae Frayna of Bicol, WFM Cherry Ann Mejia of Pangasinan and Jean Karen Enriquez of Marikina City (Girls 16-under)..
The five individual silver medals were won by Lennon Heart Salgados of Cagayan de Oro City and Richilieu Salcedo of Cagayan de Oro City (Open 20-under); Irish Yngayo of Davao City (Girls 8-under); Samantha Glo Revita of Rosales, Pangasinan (Girls 12-under) and Frayna (Girls 16-under).
The two team silver medals were captured by Gutierrez III, Ronald Canino of Cagayan de Oro City and Khulene Lord Agtarap-dela Cruz of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte (Open 8-under); Salgados, Salcedo, Mari
Joseph Turqueza of Quezon City (Open 20-under).
